Nail
Terminology
In today's
world of constantly changing nail technology, comes with it a new array of
terms, which can get confusing. Coupled with regional terminology and
individual definitions it can be difficult to know what type of nail service
to ask for. This little FYI is to help you better understand " The
Confusing World of Nail Terminology"!
-
Full Set:
Having a "New Set" of nail enhancements applied.
-
Acrylics:
A system using a liquid and powder method that is applied on top of your
natural nail, a tip, or sculpted on your nail using a nail form.
These are usually polished.
-
Pink & Whites:
Acrylic nails that are applied using white powder to form the tip of the
nail and pink powder for the nail bed area. This gives a clean,
fresh, French Manicure look. This is sometimes referred to as "Solar
Nails" in some areas.
-
Custom Blends:
Colored acrylic powder that is custom blended for your skin tone to make
a French Manicure Look for those that don't want traditional "Pink &
Whites".
-
Gel Nails:
A system using a "gel" product that is applied to your nail and set
under a UV light to "cure".
-
Extreme Nails:
A system using an acrylic powder with the "glue & spray" method.
Also referred to as Dip Powder. This method combines the stability
of acrylic with the thinner look of wraps.
-
Wraps:
This system uses silk or fiberglass mesh that is applied to your nail
and sealed with a glue & spray method.
-
Fills - Retouch -
Rebalance:
These are just a few of the terms used to perform a 2 week maintenance
of your nail enhancements. In the case of "Pink & Whites" a fill
may include just the pink or both pink & white sometime
referred to as a Backfill.
